The biggest festival in the history of the Korean art world is returning. This fall, Kiaf and Frieze will be jointly held for the fourth time. Recently, as the global art market has entered a correction phase, the outlook for the second half of the year is far from bright. At this turning point where crisis must be turned into opportunity, what are Kiaf and Frieze’s strategies? First, this year’s theme for Kiaf is Resonance. Lee Sung-hoon, the newly appointed president of the Galleries Association of Korea, emphasizes the organic cooperation among galleries, artists, and collectors in these difficult market conditions. Meanwhile, Frieze has announced the opening of Frieze House Seoul. Located in Yaksu-dong, this exhibition platform will host year-round curated exhibitions, special projects, and residency programs. Art presents a special preview of Kiaf & Frieze. The feature is divided into two parts. First, interviews with power gallerists: we hear in advance from the heads of four world-class galleries about the current state and future of the art market, as well as their strategies for this year’s fairs. Second, Gallery & Artist Highlights: we spotlight 74 blue-chip artists represented by 45 leading domestic and international galleries participating in the two events. This fall’s “Hot Art Week” — experience it first with Art!
