L.S. 로리(L.S. Lowry, 1887~1976) 영국 랭커셔(Lancashire) 출생. 고등학교 졸업 이후 펜들버리(Pendlebury)에서 집세 수금원으로 근무. 일을 하면서도 야간학교에 다니며 계속해서 그림을 그렸지만, 전문 미술인으로 활동하지 않았다는 이유로 사람들 사이에서 ‘아마추어 페인터’ 혹은 ‘선데이 페인터(Sunday painter)’라고 소문나기도 했다. 19세기 초반 프랑스 인상주의의 영향을 받았으며, 영국 북서쪽의 산업화 지역을 묘사한 역사적인 그림을 그린 작가다. 그의 컬렉션 대부분은 맨체스터 지역의 샐포드키갤러리(Salford Quay Gallery) 내 로리관(The Lowry)에 소장돼 있다.
